Letter of Self-introduction
Min-Hwan (Matthew) Lee
I am a 58-year-old Korean male. I have a wife who is 55 years old. And, we have a son who is 27 years old.
When I was in 5th grade at Shinyongsan Elementary School in Seoul, Korea, my father joined the UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) in Jakarta, Indonesia, which made my family move there. After I graduated from the elementary school called
Jakarta International School
, my father got appointed to a position at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Bangkok, Thailand, which made my family move there again. It was in Bangkok that I attended junior and senior high schools at the International School Bangkok.
Because my education had been in English, with American curricula, I went to college in the U.S.A. at Swarthmore College and graduated with Honors, majoring in philosophy and minoring in psychology. Then, I continued studying philosophy at King's College London of the University of London, where I received my M.A. degree. After that, I did my research for a PhD degree in philosophy at the University of Reading in England, but because of several reasons, I had to stop the research. Again, a long time after that, I studied for a PhD degree at the University of East Anglia, in Norwich, England, but, again, I unfortunately failed to receive the PhD degree.
As for a summary of my employment, I had a job teaching English and Ethics as a full-time lecturer at the Assumption University, a university in Bangkok that is taught in English. After that, I worked as a consultant at the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations.
And then, I came to Korea and worked at several companies and organizations, like Communications Korea- a Hill and Knowlton associate PR agency, the Korea-U.S. Economic Council, and others of the like. A long time after that, I had been the Founder/President/CEO of a translation, interpretation, proofreading, and copywriting company called
Maum Communications.
And then, I had been involved in the headhunting business. But, from many years ago, I have been engaged in Korean-to-English translation and English proofreading as a freelancer, utilizing my international, academic background and work experiences.
